Well no one answered my question in my other topic, so maybe they'll answer in this one?
what is slicing in Photoshop? what does it do? what is it used for? is it a good thing to use for layouts?

Slicing is how to seperate an image into multiple images, you can change the naming convention etc... Photoshop also has a tool to generate compliant code for the image if it is a website layout.
http://www.slicingguide.com/ is a good resource I suppose (not having used it because I don't need to learn, but I remember hearing alot about it when it opened.)
