@Marc6678: ASP support is not going to happen, we use the LAMP stack (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) and we don't plan on changing that.

Well that's a shame, you are a great host. But i think you could be a lot better if you had ASP support. As i said it is hard to find a good ASP host, you could be the best.

I am working on my website and wanted to install Gallery2 as it is the only addon that works on my Forum Script. However I couldnt do anything as the safe mode is turned ON globaly. I understand the reason why, however, I wanted to ask if its possible to have the safe mode turned Off for my account only? I would really like to have this Gallery added to my Great Danes forum.

We cannot have exceptions at this time, because that would mean we would have to entertain everyone's requests for exemption, and that would means we would need to invest a large amount of time and effort checking that each site we exempt isn't using their increased freedom for abuse purposes. Also, the possibility exists that someone manages to obtain a password for one of these less restricted accounts, and then the abuse could be occurring without the direct knowledge of the account owner. For these reasons exemption is not a feasible option at this time.

What about set_time_limit()? Can you turn it on?

We enforce a static time limit to stop scripts using all the server's resources; definitely won't be enabled in the future. Why do need it off? Anything that requires in excess of 20 seconds to execute isn't meant to be deployed on Zymic hosting.

Its for redirecting to my ACP; guess I'll just comment it out. I use it to set a limit of 10 minutes timeout in order to log in again. I'm fine with logging in each time I access the ACP.

It should work, I have installed SMF, and SMF requires more, I think. All you have to do is use an external ftp like filazilla nd upload everything. The, go to the install page and try to install it.

Okay this is very frustrating, for security reason im trying to set some permissions on image files. But it simply wont let me. I get the old:

Yeah, I think if you would want ASP, you should just find a purely ASP host.

for all who want email if it for forms i found an excellent "FREE" service www.emailmeform.com its pretty flexible and you can get pretty sophisticated forms then just paste the html they provide into to pages and you wont even know the it's an out side source. even has Captcha Image to prevent spam. excellent service for hosting services that restrict send mail. and if its just pop3 your looking for searching online for email hosting will net you whole array of options for your emailing needs sans your site host. think dynamically people there are a great many options available to us without us harassing our Site admins to lift security restrictions that are actually there for our convenience not theirs. remeber that sever wide spam control isn't cheap and to keep a free host free means you have save cost were you can.

I'm new member on Zymic and and i'd like to know if there's any possibility to get an restricted SSH access.. In order to manage account, fix bugs easily... Just few apps like : vim, tar, unlink, mv, rm ( or rmdir, but I prefer rm ) touch, chmod, screen,.. No need of external connections ( as irc,ftp,lynx,.. ), gcc, etc..

My hope is very small but I believe It could be a great feature for a free web hosting

Just wondering, can't you do all that in ftp? And wouldn't it be easier? I find when moving folders drag and drop is alot easier than the mv command. I don't know what the vim touch and screen commands do though.

Ftp is very useful but, that's just a File Transfert Protocol ( FTP ),
For example, try to send 150 files by ftp, very slow,
try to archive them, send your .tar.gz b FTP ( or sftp ), untar by SSH.. That's easier, and faster ^^ ( Backups becomes easiers to do by this way.. )
And FTP transfer, organization often slower than mv and co..

vim ( Vi: iMproved ) is a marvelous text editor ( text mode ) with syntax highlighting, search and replace ...
touch is a way to create an empty file, or just change the date of last modification.
screen provides virtual terminals.. http://www.gnu.org/software/screen/ very useful, especially when logged by SSH

With those tools, you can do almost what you want with your files ( edit, move, create, ... ) and, i guess it could be a good feature for a free hosting...

At this time im only missing: "imagemagik" support and "allow_url_fopen" to be on.

Need those features for image attachments, and offsite avatars to work properly on my phpbb3 forum.

Of course the "mail" function is really wanted, but i supose you have good reasons for set it off.

I am very glad that zymic added a few tutorials that are extremely helpful. However, I came across this tutorial that make zymic hosting look weird:

Creating a file upload form with php requires server to disable soft mode.

To my knowledge, the codes seems to be alright, it might be zymic's server end which soft mode is enable.

I wish zymic to kindly enable soft mode off so that users could make use of the file upload form with php.

send mail, but its ok if its too hard to enable, the most important is backups, i mean you can for example block 25% -to- 30% of the free host space, for essential backupsi mean for example i flag a number or directories for example "/blog" and "/whatever" to have a backup, and so you shrink the speace from 6GB to for example 4GB, this 2GB for backup, and this feauture can be disabled or enabled by user choose, so he can have 6GB without backup or 4GB with choosen directories backup.

Sendmail isn't "too hard to enable" its disabled for security reasons. Zymic doesn't want users to abuse the email privelidge. Also I just wanted to say your backup idea really doesn't make sense. At all. If they take 2gb of the space, and use it for backups, wouldn't you LOSE all the backups if the hard drive fails, which is the reason you'd want backups anyways? And I think to make a script that would allow user choice would be a pain in the ass to create. But maybe not, i'm not much of a programmer.

Anyways, I think if you want backups, just download everything from FTP and zip it up and store it on your own computer. It's easier for zymic, easier for you, and you can personally make the copies on a flash drive, a CD-R, or upload it to another file storage website (or multiple file storage websites for that matter) and not worry about losing your data, unless all the file storage websites closed down, and your flash drives all became corrupt and your house burnt down all at the same time.

And this is just my opinion, maybe someone has a better idea.

and people, safemode is not going to be disabled. in the future you can disable it for a price but the server is not going to be opened up for free.

PHP support is just fine. There are a couple things disabled, but they do not stop most major and minor scripts from working. And if you really need the script to work, there are always ways to work around the errors, or find an equal or better alternative.

That is a good idea, but it's not the most simple thing to create. Wait for all the server changes and the new control panel to come out, maybe they have taken this into consideration.

I suggest a feature in the control panel that allows the user to download the whole file-system along with the database as a Zip file with the click of a button.

Way too server intensive. Could you imagine the server outage that would happen if this feature would be implemented.

Every man and his dog would want to backup or "download the whole system" on a daily basis.
What is wrong with just using FTP to download it and zip it up onto your own hard drive?
phpBB and Wordpress (along with a billion aother things) are some of the easiest stuff to do. All you need to know what your information is and how to use it (which is very well explained in a few tutorials here).
PHP support on here is just fine thank you very much.
The mail() and fsocket, etc are disabled for security reasons BECAUSE they want to make it a user friendly environment without proxies, pyramid scams and nasty so and so's like that.
And as for what to add, I am not sure but the simpliest things are usually the best.

That would use too much of the server, use ftp for many files.

I don't Think it is that Much, My Last or OTHER web host has this option(http://x10hosting.com) I think Zymic could learn a lot from their set up...
