READ THE TUTORIAL THERE IS A FIX and zlib is DISABLE on Zymic

Emoticons are funny.
Sorry to say I am having the same problem with "Zlib Compression Support " being set to no. I would be more than happy to follow your tutorial on this matter - where is a link to said tutorial?
Thanks, much.

what code goes into the configuration.php file in the last step? You can't see the code in the tutorial.
Also, should the permissions of configuration.php be set to 777 or left as 000 in the last step?

AMEN!!! Don't misunderstand me because I am grateful that you even read this thread and for the time spent providing the free tutorial. But I am one of the noob wannabe web authors that needs a little help in the tech department.
What code does go in the config PHP file? The empty config file doesn't appear empty anymore but I didn't add the scripts.
Anyway. Thanks for your time.

For all thoes who are not following the tutorial
http://download.zymickb.tk and click on the Joomla button. i just fixed it for you with all the modding on the tutorial and a few of my own. Now zLib is STILL DISABLE but it will not show up on the pre-install and Safe Mode and Display Error are NOW green cause i made it a requirement on Joomla for Zymic.

Hi all!
First of all, thanks very much for the tutorial, it's helped me a lot.
Thing is, I am still having problems. I followed the instructions, but I get an error message, saying :
Fatal error: Call to a member function def() on a non-object in /www/99k.org/.../htdocs/components/com_content/views/featured/view.html.php on line 58
I tried googling it, but haven't found any solutions

Could anyone help me?

I reinstalled the whole thing using the fix you posted and it's working now. Thank you very much.

But I am still having problems adding modules, templates, languages etc.
I, like a few others on this forum, get an error message :
Copy failed
JInstaller: :Install: Failed to copy file /.../htdocs/language/fr-FR/index.html to /www/99k.org.../htdocs/language/fr-FR/index.html
I have also checked and rechecked if the directory is set 777 and it is.
Don't know what to do now

Has anybody ever managed? Or shall I just leave it like this for the mo and change server?
Oh yeah, just to let you know, on the link you posted :
http://download.zymickb.tk, if you click on the Joomla button, you get the drupal.zip

Good Morning,
First of all, I've never been into such a complex story namely (sites + php things). Anyhow, I tired it the day before yesterday, got lots of troubles and errors. However, after searching for many hours through the World Wide Web, I landed on this thread which really helped me in correcting some errors, though. Yet, I am still stuck in the beginning. In other words, in the pre-installation step, everything is 0k except (Zlib Compression Support), which is not activated I think. Besides, there are the (safe mode + display error) are sat on on, although the recommended setting is Off.
Therefore, could you please show me some hints about how to solve the 'Zlib problem' or something related to manually selecting themes as far as I understood from some readings!!
Finally, I would really like to say thanks for all your help in solving the (ini etc..) error...
Appreciated,
MA

Good morning again,
I would like to say thank you for not even responding to my problem

but in both cases, I got over it now. Nevertheless, I'm still facing a little problem. Besides, even the reading here did not help too much to solve the problem.
The issue is in what follows:
1. After installing joomla and deleting the installation file, when I login into my site, I see the (ini_set error with language not session) below this, I can only access home with not being able to do anything else, (as if it is only a blank page, no options are seen).
2. In the last step in the tutorial, we should create a php file and copy a code in this. Here I've 2 questions:
A. Should I replace the new configuration php file with the old one done when installing joomla?
If it is so, I receive the syntax error although I copied the code in a correct way.
B. Should I keep only the first configuration php file without creating a new one with a new code?
If it is so, I go back to the first problem, which is ini_set etc.. with a homepage option only...
I Appreciate any help in this!

Good morning,
I'm up to install Joomla 1.7 after unistalling 1.6.5 (it isn't smart

). My questions is:
Do I have to make the same changes in certain codes just like what I did when installing 1.6.5 following the tutorial or only upload the entire 1.7 package without any changes?
I apologize for the length of the question, just to make it clear!

I appreciate any help...
Best,
ssfdre38

Thank you ssfdre for your cooperation! But I just want to make sure before things are messed up!
I haven't uploaded anything yet. Besides, I've both files (the full 1.7 package from joomla site & the fixed script you mentioned in the link) and I haven't edited the files in the full package so far. Therefore, which one should I upload?
Best,
ssfdre38

ok this tutorial will work for 1.7 just fine as i have stated cause ive edited it for it to work just fine

I am really sorry to say that your answer isn't clear! In other words, what is the point of mentioning 'Joomla Script fixes' if I am going to follow the tutorial unless you mean that in the 'script fixes' everything is already set up, i.e. you edited all the files mentioned in the tutorial, which means there is no need to upload the joomla 1.7 package!
I am confussed about this because when I installed joomla 1.6.5 (following all steps in the tutorial) everything seemed alright despite the fact that I kept seeing errors in the administration page and specifically in the create menu page. (something like etc is disabled in set time ini.)
Best,

Hi friend, I have one problem. I installed 1.7 everything right. When I enter xxxxxx / joomla / administrator get the following error:
Infinite loop detected in JError
I try to fix mistake a thousand times, changing the configuration.php (logs and tmp) and I can not fix.
I don't know what to do.
thanks.

First of all, thanks a lot for the topic and tips. I've been re-directed here from the Joomla.fr forum where some people are already trying to help me.
I read it all (I'm under Joomla 1.5.15) but couldn't find a clue about my problem.
Let me explain: first, I installed the Joomla package (ages ago...) on my computer, worked (slowly...) on a website and finally decided to transfer it on my Zymic page. (account created ages ago as well!)
After some bugs (ini_set, header problems, etc) that I solved looking on the Internet, I now have a major issue: I can't connect as an admin.
I tried to create a Super Admin on SQL Buddy and that sort of things, doesn't work. It doesn't tell me if my login/pass is valid or not, it just refreshes the page and lets me start again.
Furthermore and what bugs me regarding the first post (and regarding the "Joomla for dummies" file I followed) is that I NEVER got the Installation steps after I transferred the files to the webspace using Filezilla. (which, by the way, took me AGES as I had to reload the transfers once every 5 minutes... when I had the opportunity to stay in front of my computer long enough, which prevents me from even THINKING about a clean re-install) I, instead, finally managed to have the website running to the point I had reached on my computer, but now online.
It seems that whatever I do on the jos_users table, it doesn't create a reaction on my page. (Oh, and the "contact me" form on the website doesn't work as well, though I thought I had configured it the right way on my local site.)
Any sort of help would be MUCH appreciated!

I just did it again.
http://lizontest.uuuq.com/Copy the code your given into notepad, paste it, then save as configuration.php and upload. That's it.
Could you please create a new link to gain the correct code, coz this link is no more functioning. I face the same problem; and that makes me feel I just lost my time installing this Joomla.
Thank you for your help, I strongly need it.

I don't understand it was the "root directory" or not. The position of the entire joomla folder is at the identical grade as the index.html, pictures folder.

the root directory is the first folder that your FTP client connects to or / that is your root

Great tutorial!! I really appreciate it
I successfull installed Joomla 1.7 to my free space and I also learned sometingh about the configurations files. All works properly!
But... the winning card of a CMS like Joomla is the ability to extend itself with really simply installation and without zLib support all the installation process became very annoying. I tried to install a new component (Jce editor) uploading the unzipped files and folder in the .../tmp dyrectory but I am not able to install it... I tryied to set the full privileges at the folders but the problems stands... Joomla recognizes the editor as a language and it's not able to install it

!!!
I know that this surely not depends from Zymic decision to not let zLib available, but this is too annoying. I will try a litlle bit but if I still not having succesfull installations I will sadly consider the possibility to leave the service for another...

Please forgive me for my poor english

if you read the tutorial, you will see how to disable that in the coding. just so you know zLib is going to remain disable on Zymic
