I uploaded Wordpress successfully to Zymic and it works great, except I can't seem to change themes, add plugins, modify code, etc. through the Wordpress dashboard. I get an error like this:

An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request.

Now I can upload themes/plugins via FTP, but it kind of negates the usability of Wordpress.

Any thoughts?

I have also tried making the time out length longer and that didn't work either.

This won't work, it also wont work if you tried to upgrade your WordPress installation from your WordPress dashboard's automatic upgrade, I guess these requires some PHP mods which are not enabled/disabled on Zymic's servers.

So basically what your saying is that Zymic wont fully support Wordpress and if I want a fully functional Wordpress site then I have to use another server?

this only means that you have to manually install your themes and plugins

Thanks guys.

Before this gets out of hand, the reason why you cannot automatically upgrade or install themes through the WordPress dashboard is because it requires external connection and/or loading content from another site. We have disallowed connection to other servers for the purpose of copyright issues. In the past, we have had issues with people stealing content and materials from other servers. Generally, if it was a few users who did this, we would have just dealt with those users, but it was a quite a bit of people.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause on some users, but we cannot enable this feature to protect Zymic and it's thousands of users.

I am just installing Wordpress now.

What does it mean by change themes, add plugins, modify code?

do not understand your question flaviusmihaiu. After installing wordpress, you'll more than likely want to install a new theme or plugin, this has to be done manually. Download the theme or plugin to your pc, unzip the file, then upload the folder to your wordpress directory. Make sure they are uploaded to the right directory, eg. (themes go inside the wp-content/themes directory).

I hope this helps in answering your question.

Change themes - Themes provide the ability to make your site look and feel different than it previously did. WordPress has a built in function that allows you to install themes via the dashboard. However, at Zymic, this feature is disabled. You will have to download all themes manually and upload the folder via FTP or filemanager to the wp-content/themes/ directory.

Add plugins - Plugins allow more flexibility and features to your site. Furthermore, plugins can also function as widgets for your site. You will have to download all plugins manually and upload the folder via FTP or filemanager to the wp-content/plugins/ directory. Do note that you might need to CHMOD some files for the plugins to work. If you do, it will be included in a read-me file or on the site where you downloaded the plugin from.

Modify code - Among the many user editable files in a standard WordPress installation are a Theme's Template and Stylesheet files. If you wish to change the footer.php file of your template, you can accomplish this without needing to login to your control panel. You can easily edit it via your WordPress dashboard. The Appearance Editor SubPanel allows you to edit those Theme files. This built-in Theme Editor allows you to view or change any code kept in a Theme Template or Stylesheet files. The particular file contents are displayed in the large text (or edit) box that dominates this SubPanel. Do note that you will have to CHMOD the wp-content/plugins/ and files under it to 0755 or 0777.

That helped a lot. Thank you. Very helpful. Could you add that to the wordpress tutorial in the tutorials section?

This simple how-to has now been added to the WordPress tutorial written by lizon. You can view the tutorial by clicking here.

Fast forward a year an a half - I understand why and the theme and plugins are easy to FTP, but we can't upload images to a post either. Is there a fix for that?
Does the paid hosting allow all the WP features?

I would REALLY like to sell my clients on this site. If I told them that all the functions work except the Theme and Plugin auto install I'm sure that most wouldn't care (that's why they pay me) but all the other uploading functions like Pictures - those would have to be automatic in the Free Version.

What I'd love to do is get my clients here and all setup and hopefully you have a wonderful affiliate program where I can make a bit of money persuading my clients to upgrade for faster service and all the functions of WP would work.
