Full Version: Personal Site Redesign
Zymic Webmaster Forums > Web Design & Development > Graphic Design > 2D Graphics (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc)
IamShipon1988
So I spent today re-designing my personal website located at IamShipon1988.com. No I did not code it yet. I just made it using Adobe Photoshop and Fireworks (yes I used both). I wanted to go for a design I would normally not make and came up with a cardboard/wall clip theme. I went around inspirationfolder.com and got inspired looking at other designs.

I plan on coding it using pure css and xhtml (as always) and integrating it with either Jorsek StemCM or WordPress. Please tell me what you think about the design, typography and structure. Suggestions are always welcomed and honest feedback make my job a lot easier.

Nice to see this without the binoculars from the other day, I see that you've darkened it a bit, looks great but I really enjoyed the softness versus the hardness (transparency) look of the Harley image previously ... it looks a bit too pronounced now (I'd take just a shave off the strikingness of all the darkness of that image). The other softness versus the hardness of the of the social network images/icons I think could be a tad softer (7% to maybe 12%max more transparency/washing) and then on "hover" bring them up to this level or a bit more hardened to lighten up a distraction from the main body content.
I really like the 3D blend look of the HNavbar - beautiful "Emporium' look and feel to the pages ... I get the impression I'm in an upscale neighborhood with this design. Beautiful work Sazzad!

a. I was actually playing around with the slider. What I realized was that I will not always have images such the Harley. I might just have a square box instead of a cool 3d image. I was not going for the announced look. But I guess it does seem like that

b. I think I will be replacing those social media icons completely with a different set. The original designer didn't think about the background color that much. He/She used extreme dark and light colors while making it, causing a headache on the designers head. If I make it all evenly transparent, the twitter and facebook icons still stand out. Currently they are all at 30% transparency.

c. I'm wondering if I should give the navigation's border a cutout look like in the footer (the dots that look perforated). Might look nice.

Hi IamShipon1988,
I think the addition of the perforation to the HNavbar gives an odd look (maybe overkill of a soft design element up there) in the upper half from what was (the formalness of the Sazzad Hossain and the previous Emporium look that the HNavbar presented was, I thought, outstanding!) . The perforations along the side, at the bottom (and in the "slider") I believe are a nice attraction as they appear to be "like the little tear offs on pages" you see in flyers or posts at the supermarket bulletin boards that people put up.
(thought I mention this ... there's a couple of typo's smile.gif)

ahh! my two cents worth ...

Haha...yes you have. I know there are errors. I didn't feel like changing anything due to laziness. Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it.

I like the design. The image gallery thumbnails, are they going to be that small? What are those 40x40? They look too small, how about just one row with three columns, and then the thumbnails size could be bumped up 100%. I read about Jorsek StemCM on your blog, but still you know what I would recommend. biggrin.gif

I think I will be using a qTip effect on those. So when a user hovers over them, a thoughtbubble will appear with a little larger image. But I think I like the 1 row 3 column idea better.

qTip works really well, as long as you make them look nice.

So far I finished the basic xhtml and css coding portion. Perhaps over the weekend I will convert it to WordPress. This will be a long process.
