Why aren't php files allowed..? Almost all css templates and forums use php..
Furthermore, why aren't .rar or .zip files allowed?
Tom

. The legal implications of hosting .torrents is far too great to even contemplate allowing this one. Prime example is thepiratebay.

.exe and .mp3 are no-nos. I'm not too sure about .bat but as it's essentially a text file it should be okay.
Allowed: .class, .bat, .jar, .lib

.exe and .mp3 are no-nos.
You all should add a list of files that will not be allowed ever like .mp3 and .exe...so people stop asking lol...
Alex
Oct 19 2007, 03:46 PM
I'd like to believe it would help, but we'll still get a load asking. People are like that.
Colin
Oct 19 2007, 04:01 PM
Well you would at least get less...And you all should possibly let people like submit an mp3file and if they can prove its theirs then you all can host it...because some bands might want to host music lol

Well we don't support CGI scripts, so I'm guessing allowing those is going to achieve nothing.

Could be great if .vbs would be allowed. It's a small script that I need to host as a download - it edits the user's configuration when launched to modify the Frets on Fire (a game) highscore upload address. Well, it makes life easier for those who doesn't want to go the long way (which are the most of the users).

.vbs if I remember right could contain a Virus or am I wrong?
Tom
Oct 20 2007, 12:37 PM
It's a VB script. While it's a text file and sometimes used by websites made in 1994, I still think it should be disallowed as locally it can cause damage, yes.

i'm sad there's no torrent files allowed

...and mp3 as well as exe formats are not necessarily bad...
as for mp3s, i'm guessing the main concern is that people would use thir as free file hosting - but what if a filter were applied like 110mb.com (hate them) that checks the ratio of number of php/html etc files to media types? just saying...
also, for exe
i am a programmer as well as a web developer... and i am one of those people that publish their work open source..
i would really appreciate the filter being applied, allowing torrent files and exe.
sorry if i'm requesting file formats which you guys don't approve... but i still think we could compensate...
also, i know this is probably a lot of work.. then again, i can imagine so was this website
Tom
Oct 21 2007, 07:57 AM
.mp3s? Copyright violations, not a problem with file hosting.
.exes? Too dangerous. Open source means... open source, so just provide your source, right? If it's that big a deal, no one's stopping you from paying for hosting which allows any file type.
.torrents? Why not just use the regular method of using a public tracker, or send it to your friends via email?
