Technically yes, it is considered web 2.0. If you read the WikiPedia page provided by Crown, it states that "Web 2.0 can refer to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services" (Wikipedia.org). However, to professional designers/coders; its just a little boy trying to think that bright colors is the key to web 2.0 development, which honestly is a well known misconception. Web 2.0 is not just about bright colors, but rather the new ideas of web creation and the choice of colors integrated with the over layout and content. I am pretty sure other designs will agree when I openly state, that kind of design should not be "officially" counted as web 2.0.

Going back to the generator, that is a very simple generator. It just takes your choice of color stylesheet/inputs that color data on certain fields of the css. The page remains the same (except for the title). If the creator were to have more varieties of designs available I would say "wow that is really kool," but as is, not really that attracting but rather hurts your eyes.

This page has nearly everything: Rounded corners, gradients, XHTML and CSS, a color scheme to make your eyes vomit, a trendy 'badge', Google Ads, whitespace galore and a big-ass dorky font. Pop in some AJAX and watch squillions of dollars roll in.

Most online generators that generate elements that allegedly conform to the elusive Web 2.0 'style' [and exactly what that is I don't know -- most of the 'elements' of the so-called Web 2.0 design and usability have been around from the time I began using the Internet, like the Google logo or user participation through sites like amazon.com or epinions.com] are basically created in a lighter vein -- as online jokes. This generator is no different -- the line quoted above makes it quite apparent.

This site turned up in my quest to figure out what the elusive Web 2.0 'style' is and I thought I'd share it with Zymic folks. Maybe someone here can create a really nice looking template using that generator. After all, its creator claims that

It does make some pretty layouts though...

And hey -- what's wrong with pretty and bright colours, eh? wink.gif

Cheers!

If I could get my hands on that generator...hmm...maybe we should make one ourselves.

Yeah, we could throw in a choice of a background image [fixed position: centre top], a choice of fonts, number of columns on the page, include a web 2.0 style logomaker [with reflection, glazing and all], splash it all with a choice of a trendy colour scheme... the whole Web 2.0 works! biggrin.gif
