so i have been playing with silverlight apps for the past couple of months, and recently saw how nice it was used for viewing the jackass 2.5 movie on jackassworld.com

Anyone have any expeirence with it? or now anything more about it? it reminds me of flash and ajax mixed together.

I've not seen it in action. The installer tells me I need to be an administrator... funny shit, eh?
Vaisor
I've only ever had to use it to view the halo 3 manual online lol.... this was b4 i got halo3.... i was... "eager"

It is pretty nice though, It definately isn't flash alone, I have never really used Ajax, so I wouldn't really know if it had that in it...

@Tom
Why would it say you have to be admin?? Admin on your computer? anyway you can just go Safe Mode and log in a system admin and then install it smile.gif

Not interested in this at all. I love how simple flash is to write. Does microsoft really need more of your money? The content on jackassworld.com appears to all be flash.

Tom
It only works on XP SP2. Until it works on a clean XP install or SP1, Microsoft are living in a dream world thinking it has any potential. Leave it to Flash, which has millions of developers, works on any machine and on top of that, pretty much everyone has it installed. People are familiar with it.

actually on jackass world, the streaming of of 2.5 on the site was done from Silverlight. I love some the applications it has. Why are you saying taking more of your money? This is free.....

im going to put a demo on my site soon (lil pic gallery)

anyway i like this is because all you need to do is make really simple edits. I dont think this is going against flash, but its mostly java/ajax

silverlight is less then a meg to install, and the possibilites are endless.... its still new, but has potential...

What about it is silverlight? http://www.jackassworld.com/movie/ is flash. You can right click it to see so.
What advantages does it have over Flash? Flash is doing a great job handling RIAs. There isn't a need for Silverlight, nor does anyone want it (except maybe .NET developers and people with stock in microsoft).

I've got it on mah Vista but I've never used any apps for it so I dunno what it's like. I'm not actually sure how it works, can anyone please inform me?

The part of the site isnt there anymore, but it was: http://www.blockbuster.jackassworld.com

It utilized silverlight for the streaming of the movie and other features.

See Jackass 2.5 Free Courtesy of Blockbuster and experience Silverlight
Cider is currently known as the "WPF Designer for Visual Studio" but we're also in the works of being known as the "Silverlight Designer for Visual Studio".

In other words, we care about Silverlight and the following is pretty cool:

· On December 19th, Blockbuster will premiere the first full-length feature film, Jackass 2.5, directly to online audiences on Windows and Mac using Microsoft Silverlight

· Jackass 2.5 will be made available for free, for anyone in the US 17 or older, courtesy of Blockbuster at www.blockbuster.jackassworld.com beginning December 19th through December 31st, 2007

· This is one of the largest projects in Blockbuster history, made possible using the rich media CDN from Limelight Networks and Silverlight

· Silverlight is a 1.5MB cross-browser, cross-platform plugin for IE, Firefox and Safari users. Details and download at http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight

The ecosystem around Silverlight is continuing to grow, with an impressive line-up of customers like MLB.com, BMW, Sony Ericsson, Baidu (#1 search site in PRC), NBA.com, Entertainment Tonight (CBS/Paramount) and UVNTV.com, to name a few. See more at http://silverlight.net/Showcase/

Silverlight has alot of use even now that all those big names are starting to use it...

Opera doesn't support Silverlight :-(
I have seen it do some pretty cool things, though...

There was this project M$ was working on. I wish I could remember what it was called... Anyway, they took a ton of pictures of this building from different angles, and put them together with this crazy software so it sort of made up the whole building from all of the 2d pictures. It was really neat.

Wrote a little with it, it's alright, some limits, but there's always room for expansion in any language wink.gif I still prefer the known popular languages xD tongue.gif
