Good morning everyone,

Recently I installed joomla 1.7 on my zymic site and i went to the joomla admin panel to change the Mail Settings, I knew that zymic don't have php mail function for free and therefore I changed to something like this to make my gmail send out email(outgoing):

However when I setup my joomla new user registration function, and I tested this function by try registering a new account on my joomla site. I have got these errors:
SMTP Error! Could not connect to SMTP host.
Registration failed: An error was encountered while sending the registration email. A message has been sent to the administrator of this site.

Anyone know the solution to this issue? I have been googling around but I got no answer. And I'm sure that my gmail address and password are correct.

Thanks a lot!

Yeah that because SMTP is not allowed on Zymic, so you have to purchase the mail() function in order to send emails from your board, it's a one time fee of $10, more information can be found here.

If you are manually creating users, and you don't want them to receive the email with their user name and password, try turning off the radio button "receive system emails" in the profile set up. Not sure about this one. Another way would be to bulk import users from a csv file, but you'll have to search the extension directory for a 1.7 extension.
