Error: 403 Forbidden
If you are the website owner:
You have not uploaded an index page (index.html or index.htm or index.php) in this current directory, and therefore a 403 error has occurred. If you feel you have uploaded an index file, make sure it is in lowercase (e.g. not Index.html).

Well, Your index page has to be in your main directory.
You could always try making the /forum/ into your main directory, See if that works.

ok so I deleted the folder and upload it all to the main dir. and I still got This error on all my pages. Yes have a index page. I tried htm, php, and html just to make sure.
http://addictedtosims.zxq.net http://addictedtosims.zxq.net/index.phpanyone else having tis problem.
It was all going fine till a few days ago. I even took out everything and tried to load just a index.html page and it gave me the same error.
Well any ideas will help. I also have thought of deleting the site it self and make a new one under differ name in hopes that it will fix it. Tis is to usume its a problem with the file system or such and not the hosting it self.

Ok guys I have read all the post where you try to explain how to fix this issue. Unfortunately its a bit vague for newbies like myself and others. I have followed the the instruction to install and configure phpBB3. My installation was successful and I renamed the installation folder to index.php. Only then did I got into the ACP of the board but unfortunately that was all I was getting. I then deleted the installation folder because I found the board was disabled and as the instruction said I needed to delete the install folder. But my problem still lies like everyone where it asks for the index page. My question is how do u create an index page for something like this?

I have exactly the same problem, I just finished a successful installation of phpbb3, but it won't run the index.php for the forum. The installation install.php, and the admin console work just fine. I also get the same 403 error. There is another thread about blocked file types, there seemed to be something about htaccess files that hasn't been figured out yet. The Admin guy said:

Is .htaccess allowed?
Yes, they're allowed but we're still amidst discussion on how we plan to handle them. At present, they do not work in their intended context.
I think this is the reason that phpbb3 isn't working. I read on another board that phpbb2 works without htaccess, but I haven't tried it yet.
Sorry I don't have a ton to contribute, I'm also still stuck.

phpBB 3.1 working fine for me.
.htaccess files are supported ok now also.
The install folder needs to be deleted after installation. If you cant delete it you need to 'force show hidden files' in your FTP program and then delete again.
The index.php should be there from the start... if you deleted it by mistake or it has just disappeared I suggest uploading all the phpBB 3 files and starting again.
Make sure you keep the correct directory structure as it is in the zipped file. And if you want the forum to be your main page make sure everything is uploaded to the root directory.
