I have one, it took half an hour just for all the phpbb files. How do you do that linking thing you said you can do with the database.

You have to set up a different hosting account, eg thelostexplore.vndv.com, and then set up a db ect on that account. Then simply use the connection settings for that account, even if the files are on the-lost-explore.vndv.com

when I try and install Vbulletin this is the error that follows;
Warning: chdir() [function.chdir]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 4925 is not allowed to access ./../ owned by uid 2003 in /www/uuuq.com/s/a/f/safe/htdocs/install/installcore.php on line 22

Any help would be appreciated, What is the default path for our files on this server? (vbulletin requires the path in its config.php file ie. /public/users/myaccount/forum/)

vbulletin is not allowed, it says so explicitly when you sign up. Your account will now be deleted.

I thought I saw that somewhere, but in the forum Tutorial it was listed as one of them SO I dont think deleting my account is fair but do what ya want, it's the software I've paid for and been using for over 5 years... BTW why is it not allowed? Its a very robust and nice package. Well I'm not here to create any troubles just was looking for an easy solution and this cerainly hasn't been it ...
Thanks anyway,

VB isnt allowed because the majority of people that upload it use nulled copies of it and have not rightfully paid for it. Another minor issue with it is that it has a lot of files with it which clogs up the ftp server.

Along with being overly resource intensive compared to other forum packages.

This topic wasn't started by an admin, but I would agree that it does confuse things. I've now removed vBulletin from the list in the first post, sorry for the misinformation.

NP swordz I still think what y'all are doing here is great for most folks and I give ya a big ^5 for that and I also agree that vB is a bit more complicated then some of the others. I found another site that looks pretty nice and no safe mode ands they provide every piece of info ya need for setting up vB so I guess ya really did me a favor. Anyway keep up the Great work guys...

I am having a similar problem as Twisted. I uploaded all the files for phpBB3. I have created a database with the name horrorguard_db and a user by the name horrorguard_adm. I get to the install portion where it asks for the database info. I select the Mysql option for database type. The database hostname is set to localhost since that is what phpmyadmin tells me it is. I have entered the correct database name and correct username. I have checked the password about 3 times. I didn't set the port number since i didn't think i would need to. But every time i try to continue on with the install i get the error: Access denied for user 'horrorguard_adm'@'localhost' to database 'horrorguard_db'. Now I have no issues accessing the database with phpmyadmin and I am using the same password there. I can't think of what i might be doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the poor formatting of my post.

I am having trouble changing the permissions of my files and folders. When I click to edit the permissions, it says that the permission has been changed but when I run my test again, they still say unwriteable. I then go back and look at my files and my writeable box is still on unchecked. Any ideas?

How to set-up forums for your website
Pick the forum that best suits youThere are many more types of forums but those are the top 3 that I like to use depending on the type of site and look I want.
Download the package, and make sure its a stable package not a beta one.
Unzip the package and upload it to your site in a new directory called whatever you want (possible /forum/)
Once you have finished uploading it all, you should go to your favorite internet browser and go to where you forum is (example.com/forum/)
It should lead you to the installation part. These 3 forums come with explanations on what to fill out but I will have screenshots and a explanation from
my own head up here soon.
Questions are welcome.
Hope my small guide was somewhat of help, probably not yet, but should be alot better when I start updating it with new and useful information.
but how upload files because I can't do it

A forum helps to build a sense of community. People, by their very nature, like to be a part of something and if your website makes them feel like this, then they will come back time and time again and of course, the more times someone comes back, the more chance there is that they might buy something from you :-)
