Full Version: Making Files Writeable?
Zymic Webmaster Forums > Zymic Free Web Hosting > Zymic Free Web Hosting - General Discussion & Help

Hi!

I tried to install Simple Machines using Zymic webhosting, but on the install.php page it says:

"Some files need to be writable for SMF to work properly. This step allows you to let the installer make them writable for you. However, in some cases it won't work - in that case, please make the following files 777 (writable, 755 on some hosts)"

How do I make files writeable?

And by the way, how do I find my FTP servername + Port, FTP username and FTP password?
wozzym
You make them writable by changing the permissions. In the file manager section find the files that need to be writable. For each one click on the yellow triangle to the right of the writing. It should say "Edit/Change permissions". Once that is done you will see the permissions that have been automatically given to that file. If the "w" for writable is not checked then check it.

As for your ftp servername e.t.c.:

Ftp servername=yourdomain.subdomain.org/net/com

Username=yourdomain@subdomain.org/net/com

Password= the password you use to get onto the site that you are sending the files to.

Port=21

Edit: wozzym beat me to it by less than one minute tongue.gif

You should of been sent an account info email with the password, but its the one you signed up with anyway.

FTP address: site.subdomain.com
User: site@subdomain.com
Password: your password

You can use an FTP client to chmod the file, or use the web based file manager and click on the permissions icon.

SMF still says "Unable to connect to FTP server with this combination of details." mellow.gif

SMF also want me to type in the "Install Path";

This is the relative path you use in your FTP server.

What's that?
wozzym
filezilla is an excellent and free ftp program

http://filezilla-project.org (you just need the client.)

This is what i use and it works just fine smile.gif

If you know his problem why dont you help him out ?

Your ftp address will be your website address & your user will be yoursitename@zzl.org/zqx.net/zymichost.com the password should be the one you login to the ZCP.

If it is asking for the directory i would try leaveing it blank as this has worked for me in the past. @ Trippin7464

Your Server
sim-marcus.zzl.org/
Your Username
sim-marcus@zzl.org/
Your Password
The Password you use to get into The Zymic Control Panel
Port
21

Use FileZila login with the details above to reupload the SMF then after uploaded you can right click chose "File Attributes" then at the bottm you see a box number the number you need say "777" then that should work .. Do you understand this?

Bread any ideas

Drop the obnoxious behaviour sim-marcus. I'm guessing your issues escalates from the FTP functions not being available within php, you need to manually set the permissions using FTP.

Your relative path is :
CODE
/www/zzl.org/s/i/m/sim-marcus/htdocs

Not being familiar with SMB I can not provide any further information. Refer to their documentation for manual installation.

Not ever having installed 'smf' I tried installing it:
http://bready.zymichost.com/smf/

The ftp thing is exactly as I described and fails, so you have to follow the documentation to fix the permissions:
http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=5

For more on CHMOD see here:
http://www.zymic.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=343

Once you have the permissions sorted, just visit the install script again, when it asks you for database bits follow this:
http://www.zymic.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=536

You will need to disable all mail related functionality (such as user confirmation via email) as Zymic hosting does not any form of mail.

That about wraps it up.
