Paranoid
Hey:
Just finished coding my personal/community website...

http://shatteredstorm.info

Tell me what you think about the layout (Only the homepage is done, and I don't really have all my sidebar content I want. I just want feedback on the layout mostly).
Banjo
The layouts good exept it is quite small.
Shadow Man
I like it, its small but still good.
it would work well for a 800x600 screen
but still very readeble for 1024x768
nice work cool.gif
wozzym
yes like other people have said, the body could be bigger smile.gif
LimitedEdition
yea tis abit small ... kinda lost on my 22" monitor
Paranoid
-Ok, what is the CSS that allows things to be a certain % on your screen, instead of being a set width and height.
Banjo
Instead of say your css looks like this for width

CODE
width: 800px;

you

would do something like

CODE
width: 80%;

just use % instead of px
Paranoid
-Ok, I'll edit my CSS and see how it looks and stuff smile.gif
uncled1023

I'd rather use px tbh..
Cmain
Unless you layout is totally liquid use pixels. The layout looks pretty good, but I agree that it is too thin.

Work well for 800x600 ? who has a small screen like this ? not many people !
As for a 1024x768 ok lots of people still have it.. but not as much as you think

these days people have around 19 to 24 which you can't really run a 1024x768 on it...

The site is not bad, but its extremely small.
Shadow Man
Have a look @ w3schools/Browser Display Statistics
you are right that not meny people still have it
but 1024x768 is still and will be for a while most popular screen res
Paranoid
I designed it small - on purpose. I really can't stand personal websites with big, screen taking layouts.
Its not that small.

I donno what you mean by that but... it is definitely not small its TINY. its really really small. it takes less than half my screen (17 with 1024x768) and 1/3 of the screen with my sisters screen 19 with around 1200x800 or something around that... really really small. Most of people i know don't even have 17 screens and when i look online i dont see any sales on 17. less on 19's but most likely 20s and 22s... even 24.

imagine the site with a 22 24 screen ? 1600 resolution ? Oops.

Community site should at least be around 900width.

or like zymic, its applies in any screen size. smile.gif great coding smile.gif

I just set it up - its not an established site.
and thanks for the coding comment.
wozzym
if its going to be small id suggest having the template more centered wink.gif

Paranoid when i first visited your site, my reaction was like everyone else's here, but since I have 1024x768 (against my will, shitty flat panel) it was still legible. But after browsing around some, I actually started getting a liking to it. And it's different, so I think you should just do it how YOU want, I mean if your site becomes a big success for whatever reason then you can worry about what the consumer wants, and even then you can do a simple skins script with php.
wozzym
ya its growing on me. i just need to press the zoom in button on my computer once and im good to go smile.gif

Thanks smile.gif Im actually working right now to include more scripts, skinning, and creating some more graphics. (Other than the crappy ones of my past).
