What do you guys think of wal-mart? Do you think it's fair that they are destroying small cities with their Low Prices? And the newest thing are the cheap medications, which is good for the people, but bad for the pharmacists. I still shop there for food, but I prefer Publix since their meats and produce are always fresher and not tasting ass like. What do you guys think about the massive company?
Or Monopolization for you international folk :-D
(could you maybe fix the title then??

Eh, I don't shop @ Wal-Mart. I support local businesses.
Andrew
Mar 21 2008, 06:44 PM
You know what sucks though, where I live we really don't have many local businesses. Definitely none for groceries. None that I can think of for produce, unless we want to drive 30 to 45 minutes out of our way (when publix, albertsons, wal-mark neighborhood center, and places like that are within 5 minutes away. ) Our city is very commercialized.

I rarely shop there, Target is better. Walmart just sucks you in with their opening price point and bullshit "low prices".

I guess you could broaden this topic to "monopolization" for us international folks.

Mar 21 2008, 10:14 PM
Restrictions on monopolies are obviously necessary for a healthy economy. However as far as I am aware Wal-Mart are just a big business, which may result in smaller (and most of the time probably better) businesses being unable to compete. But this is capitalism, you can't say "hey you, stop making money so other people can get a fair share!"

True but we can do like in south park and Bomb the place... but that didn't work. I forgot how they saved themselves from the super mega store or whatever it was called.

Personally, I don't really think anything's wrong with Walmart. I mean, if you were the owner of Walmart, what would you think?

I wouldn't be thinking, i'd be spending my money right now. lol

i'm not ashamed to say that I work at wal mart part time in canada. If it weren't for the higher wages & their location, I wouldn't go there. But seriously, i find tons of empty packages around the store all the time and people treat us like trash. I'll quit at the end of the summer though. xP

http://wal-mart.com (I would have had this in before paranoid but my internet crapped out on me for a few minutes.)
And cost-co isn't owned by walmart, I know sams club is. And down here we have BJ's Wholesale club too. We've got all three of those bulk retailers. and we have 4 walmart super centers within 20 minutes of each other... two of them are 3 miles away from my house in opposite directions. and then we have all these Wal-Mart neighborhood centers going up. We have 3 of those, and I'm sure they are thinking of new places to throw a couple more up. It's ridiculous how many walmarts we have around here. And we aren't even that big of a city.

I love Costco - especially their food court, at least in Montana its cheaper than Walmart...slice of pizza for $1.50 & Hodog/Polish dog for $0.75. Dunno why it is so cheap, the quality of the food from their food court is really good too. I just think everything is cheap in MT, lol.

Horrible company which has become worse after the passing of Sam Walton. If you havent seen the documentary, "The High Cost of Low Prices" you will be shocked once you see it. Appalling .
