Yeah, me neither. Lemme check. Maybe there was an "Okay" button or something... Yeah, I went back, and they were all unchecked again. I'm hitting "OK" but it won't work.

The database/user name includes the joachimboy_. Also the maximum length for both is 16 characters, including the joachimboy_.

I can't change the file permissions.

If I check the 'w' and press OK, a message appears "Permissions on directory "name_here" set". But the 'w' remains uncheck when I check the permissions again.

I'm using Firefox and uploaded the files using FileZilla.

Problem solved, I just found out you can edit the permissions via FileZilla.

Some people here seem to be having a bit trouble installing SMF,]. Well I'm here to help. smile.gif

First of all, if you haven't already done so, go to http://www.simplemachines.org/ and get the full version of SMF.

Now run your FTP program ( see http://www.zymic.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=59 for info on FTP)
Once you have your FTP program open upload the SMF files to your site.

Once that is done, click on MySQL database in your control panel and make a database. You can name your database anything you like as long as you remember it.

Optional: To make things easy make the database username same as your database name. (less to remember)

Now press create username with the password. (Whatever you want, but remember it!)

Now once you've done all that, go back to your SMF folder in your file manager and click edit permissions on the following files:

attachments
avatars
Packages
Packages/installed.list
Smileys
Themes
agreement.txt
Settings.php
Settings_bak.php

There will be a few boxes checked with some letters next to them. Make sure each of these files have "W" checked and click OK. Make sure that this is done to all of the above files. like so

Finally run "install.php" by doing yourname.zzl.org/wherever_you_copied_files/install.php and follow the steps! This should be pretty easy!

After all this, delete the install.php and go to your forums and do whatever you want. smile.gif

Thanks , Swintell

If you have any questions please post here and I'll try to help the best that I can.

Thanks for this tutorial helped me alot smile.gif.

One thing only tho, i had to CHMOD all files on my ftp to 770 for this to bypass the file check via ftp. But i noticed that when the installation is done SMF installer automatically CHMOD's everything back to the way it should be, could be a tip for those that wont bypass the FTP-file check.

Thanks once again for this tutorial smile.gif.
