Hey all,

I've just installed phpbb 2.0.9 forums to my server as I couldnt get to grips with v3 but now Im getting bots registering which I didnt get with v3.

Is there any way I can stop bots joing my forums without using any scripts? (my host dont allow scripts on the servers)

Do you have the captcha authorization enabled? If not do so, but if you have I'm sure there are modifications for this.

No I haven't yet, I was reading on the phpbb website and they said it wasnt including in the version that I have. I was going to upgrade to the latest (which I think is 2.0.23 but i dont know how to upgrade.

I know that there is a thread on the phpbb forums with some code for 2 tpl files which I think adds the captcha but Im a bit of a noob with php so dont fancy risking it lol

Clean installs are easier if you don't care about losing your information. If you are wanting to upgrade versions, then google phpbb2 upgrade if that is what you are wanting to do. Like Jack said as well, I am sure there are mods out there that add what you are wanting, but I would still upgrade if I were you.

I don't know the functions that phpbb has, but if you can set a rule in the administration that bans users from posting new threads until they've reached a certain amount of posts... it wouldn't stop the bots from joining, but it would stop them from spamming new threads throughout your forum if that's your problem.
