It's the same thing JSeb, you have to manually upload the mod and follow it's instructions. You can't use the automatic mod installer.

It's not that much work

If you are testing to see what mods you like, then either just upload a lot of create a local test server on your computer to test them with. Otherwise, it's pretty much just downloading the mod, uploading it via FTP, then activating and installing it via SMF admin panel. Takes a few seconds.

SMF works fine, just some PHP functions are disabled so some features will not work correctly in some scripts.

even doing it that way, I still need to connect to FTP because some files also need to be created and there is no way to make them manually.

No, you just need to set the correct permissions using CHMOD so that the folder where it needs to create the file(s) in are writable.

No you don't need the ftp information to create any files for SMF. The only time you need FTP is to set permissions of select files and uploading mods, but that has to all be done manually in a client or the file manager.

he meant that you can;t create the needed files yourself because you don't know what they are.

You don't need to create any files yourself, the script does that AFTER you set the correct permissions for the folders it asks for.

I tried it with the Admin notepad mod, 4 files. They were all 777, in the right spot, but no matter what it asks for the FTP info. If you can either help figure out the FTP info or give me an exact step by step, that'd be great.

ftp lets the script access your site and install the needed files...it cant just poof in files with automated code...
Now please refresh my memory. is smf already installed on your site? or still in the installation process? if its installed, what did you put in as your ftp information for the installation? it required it there too. if you dont know phpmyadmin might help...if you understand it

which most people dont.

It's installed, and I manually made the files 777 myself because I couldn't get it then.
I'll look at the phpmyadmin i guess... any other advice
