This would be my first attempt at a table-free layout. It was originally made in tables but I decided to convert it and change a few things (one of them was to make a sidebar, lol). I do have to give many thanks to my mate at www.thewinator.nl for all the help as I had a few problems coding it to how I wanted it.

Anyways, here's a screenshot:

And here's a live preview: http://www.glitchesexposed.com/tpf/

EDIT: Template has been edited from the 4th of April, 2008.

good job. my eyes hurt a little bit after it but thats just me. you are creating great work for a newbie (but still better than me tongue.gif)

It looks a little too basic for my tastes. It's a good start though.
wozzym
basic is sometimes good though because very complicated ones can make your eyes want to blow.

Thanks, and do your eyes hurt because of the colours or something else? Please do explain so I can improve. I myself don't like the colour scheme, I think it's too dark myself.

Also, I prefer simple templates as they're usually easier to update, manage and navigate. They're more user-friendly for both webmaster and user.
Paradoks
Not to crazy about the scan lines man.

I'll be removing them anyway so I can make the template brighter. I added them so as to not make a plain background.

EDIT: I've edited the template a bit. Both the OP image and live preview have been updated appropriately.

I agree, Very nice template you have here. Hard to believe that it is table free!
Simplistic is always a good thing: Simple is usually basic HTML/PHP Knowledge. Easy for the user to operate smile.gif

Most of my sites are pretty basic. And the template was originally a tabled layout but I "converted" it to divs and added a few things. The sidebar, the content above the sidebar/main content and the content "headers" would be additions from the original layout.

Hey Nexus, that's a nice and clean layout smile.gif.

However, unless you deliberately want a 'regular' font for your header, I suggest one that's a bit more rough-and-edgy...
Alex
A few suggestions on the coding side of things:
  • HTML should be indented just like any other language, it's very messy at the moment.
  • The CSS is just as messy and hard to read as the HTML.
  • Quite div-heavy at the moment, your markup should be "semantic", that is, the tag used should describe what sort of content it has in it. So don't use '<div id="header">', use '<h1>'. The other headers should be <h2>, the footer could do with being a <p> since it's just text - and the navigation should really be a <ul>.

As to the layout, the colour-scheme could do with a little more variety, the content is a bit squashed (consider making it wider or liquid), and spell check things if this is intended to be taken seriously as a portfolio (for one, you apparently have an "imaage gallery" wink.gif)
