For a while, I have been supporting a free Tibet by helping out as much as I can. Since the fight for a free Tibet has gotten so big, I thought why not bring it to the web. So please show your support the cause. We have few options available for you.

I modified the code. The textarea box was not going too well. So I removed it and linked it back to this thread.

You could at least make the code valid. I think Tibet has enough trouble on its hands to be dealing with this invalid code, and I don't think they'd appreciate the lack of effort shown in producing invalid code to "support" their cause. That's a bad representation of freedom.
On a realistic note, pointlesssssssssssssssssss.
It maybe pointless to you, but it is important to some people.
Also about the code, does it really matter? All we're trying to do is put a message out there. If the message is heard, then its an accomplishment for us. You don't have to put it, its a suggestion for those who believe in all nations freedom.

Why do you want people to cover their entire site[s]? A
smaller-but-effective label or button with a link to a dedicated 'Free Tibet' site that offers informtation regarding how people
can actually help would serve your purpose just as well,
if not better. That way, you'd be informing your visitors about the movement too.
There are several such sites, like:
freetibet.orgfreetibet.netRight now, I find this a rather
uninformed attempt, one that will draw the wrong type of response, from the 'I-am-doing-this-because-it's-cool' crowd, who are generally ignorant of the real issues.
Note: Having said all that, I only wish this Tibet issue could be solved without any more violence...

Tom - Yes I am helping through the process of donation as well. I participate along with my girlfriend in the Students for a Free Tibet. We are in the process of creating a division of the cub in my university along with few others. The reason for the web is imagine what big effect it would have on people if big and popular site such as rapidshare or even alistapart takes its service down even for day. Think of what will spread through peoples mind. That is the effect we are aiming for. Btw its not just me that is doing this. We have many sites from all over the world that is in support.
Machine - You do not have to remove it completely. You can always place a banner or even a ribbon such as the ones from ONE (fight poverty). But the objective is to take off your service and send out a message such as "we will not work until we can what we seek"

Heh. I just gave a speech for my class about freeing Tibet. (Actually, that's like the 6th time I've used Tibet for a school project.)
But I definitely agree with Machine. It'd be far more effective (and less of a hassle) to just put a button (possibly with some info) linking to a page with much more information.

Why not something like this?

It's nothing fancy I just made it with an online generator. But still...

Yeah, it's simple and effective. But how about using colours from the 'unofficial' National Flag of Tibet? I believe you can see the colours on the two sites I posted above...
Andrew
Apr 25 2008, 08:57 PM
The only reason I did it that colour was because it was close to the one in the "full page" thing that Iamshipon posted. The online generator was a PITA to use because it doesn't let you select the color of the background, you just choose 1 of the 80 or so backgrounds they have.

Well,
this [below] is closer to what I had in mind -- a virtual 'Free Tibet' badge or button, featuring the colours of the Tibetan flag:

or
Note: Both are PNG images [with transparency] and can be used with/over any background [the credit info can be deleted in Photoshop].
Cheers!

I notice some that brought the Tibet situation to the web, but it was with a Trojan, them bastards. It seems like it would have to be someone in opposition to a free tibet.

@Midknight: Any issue that generates a lot of user interest is a likely target for these Trojans [and other cyber-critters]. A sad comment on human nature, isn't it?

@ Valency: Thanks, pal.
Personally, I have decided to put one of these badges on my site while the Olympic Games are on -- with so much international attention focused on the region, it'll be a good time to raise this issue peacefully.

To those who are interested.
A few days back, few of my friends and I hosted a movie event where we showed "THE CRY OF THE SNOW LION." The movie is about the struggles and hardships of the Tibetans (more info can be found [url=http://www.cryofthesnowlion.com/]here[url]). The movie was planned for about a week and we wanted to spread the word about the movie, so we posted up flyers all over our campus just like all the clubs do when they host an event. The next day after we put up all our flyers, they were all taken down and ripped. There was a Chinese group of students who came up infront of us and took it down. I was thinking in my mind, what the HELL. Why would you do something soo evil. It became too late for us to put up the flyers again, but we did have a pretty good turn out. When we went to the room we reserved to show the movie, once again a group of Chinese students were already there in the room protesting. I don't get it, we just want to show a movie. Why would you protest. We later had no choice but to ask those who did not want to watch to leave. Some did, some stayed. We were fine with them watching. But those who did, stayed outside handing out papers saying what we were doing was wrong. How could showing a movie be wrong? At the end of the movie, we held a discussion that soon became a debate between the Chinese students and our group. We thought in our mind, we worked hard to host such an event, where as the Chinese students did not reserve anything but came and almost ruined our event. Why would anyone do such a thing.
In addition to those events, a friend of mine, who was one of the main students in charge of the event, got approached by a group of Chinese kids and received few anonymous phone calls asking her to Cancel the Event. Why would anyone go to such an extent to find out someones phone number and call them to cancel a movie event. That made no sense. I just got very upset with them. This began to show me how hard it is for the Tibetans.
@ machine - I added your buttons to the list. Thank you for your support.

It's quite sad when people think being Right is about spreading misinformation, screaming louder than others and using force. Happens everyday...

Indeed, The world goes round but so does the violence. It's sad that there is not such a thing as peaceful demonstration..

I think what happened with the Tibetan protesters was that they got tired of waiting for something to happen, thus they resorted to violence when they couldn't take any more. Also have you heard about the burning of Frances Flag by the Chinese protesters. It's sad that the pro-China group are being blinded whats actually going on. How could you show such a disrespect to a nation that didn't do anything wrong. Oh just because the Torch blown out, the pro-China has the right to burn the country's flag. Anyways, I guess we'll have to wait and see the outcome of these events.
