With each free web hosting account, you will have access to FTP. FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol" and is the best choice to use for managing your websites files.

To begin with you will need an FTP client, I use FlashFXP, however you may download Filezilla which is free (open-source) and easy to use:

Once downloaded, install and open FileZilla. Here is what it looks like:

In order to connect to FTP, you will need the following information (also included in your registration email):

Your website address (e.g. ftpupload.99k.org - without any www. or http)
Username (This is slightly different for FTP, it is your username followed by an underscore and your subdomain, so: ftpupload_99k, EXCEPT for vndv and uuuq domains. For ftpupload.vndv.com or ftpupload.uuuq.com, your username is ftpupload)
Password

Now simply enter in your details into the top connection panel, followed by entering in port 21 like so:

And then hit "Quick Connect", if you have entered in your details correctly, you should be connected.

Now simply upload files from your hard-drive to FTP. To do so use the left panels to browse through your files, for example I want to upload test.txt which is located on my desktop. I right clicked it and selected "Upload"

The file will now be uploaded to your site, e.g. ftpupload.99k.org/test.txt

You may also create new folders, to do so simply right click in the right panel like so:

You can also change file permissions by right clicking and selecting "File Attributes".

Wow jack, this is by far the best tutorial for FTP I've ever seen - nice work. FileZilla is great, I've been using it for a good 2 years now (I think, yeah?)

Yes it's very nice but there are problems with some file extensions. I can't upload .shtml files. And if i upload a .htacces file i cant rename or remove it! So now i have 2 .htacces files and i don't want them! So maby you can fix the problems with the file extensions?

Either your not inputing a port, The server is down, Or your Computer/Internet is laggy
If it's your computer Shut down programs that use bandwidth and
Click Start -> run -> Type: Ipconfig /flushDNS
This will flush your DNS (kinda cleaning it up and makeing it faster. This is Safe concerting your Computer Runs this command When it reboots

If it's your internet..... well your SOL unless you upgrade Change the setting on both your router and/or computer. or switch ISP

Ftp is definitely up, make sure you're using the following to connect with:

CODE

Host : virtual-tuning-ks.zzl.org
User : virtual-tuning-ks@zzl.org

Password : the hosting account password (not your zymic user one)

Thanks for the tutorial I was just typing zxq.net into adress (host on filezilla 3.0) and freevid into username and the password into password and I was getting "could not connect to the server".

every time i tried to login with TurboFTP

it says the same thing

Mine is SnartFTP but it doesnt connect, it says Login autheticatio failed....
But I entered the password and username and the site correctly, I even copyed pasted it from my message.....

FTP works, are you positive the password is correct?

Can you login into the zpanel with the password used?

- I also tried variations like "ftp://akai.zzl.org" for host or just "akai" for user, but nothing worked.
- Yes, I can login in ZPanel.
- I was able to upload some files via the upload manager, but the website isn't accesible. Firefox gives timeout error.
- I tried creating another site with another domain name (99k.org) but it returned the same errors in FTP and browser.

It does not work. It does not work with urja@zzl.org either

What is the maximum size of files to upload to ftp? I need tj upload 14mb file, and I can't do this :-(

Hello. My problem would be that it is slow cruel FTP!!!!!!!! Under how many days 25 MB would go up???? 2 years 3 years??? what it is possible to know when it is made???????? I hope for it at what soon because I would fill it up already the portal system!!!!! 6 of his clocks I fill up the substance and only 1 MB went up yet!!! I hope for it something is made for him!!!!!
