My first template I've ever made... tips, suggestions, comments would be appreciated! (Some of the images, in the header, got messed up somewhere in the process but I'll eventually fix that) tips on a smoother transfer (from photoshop) would be just lovely also!

Check it out: luke.zzl.org

Your slicing and coding needs some work. other than that its pritty blan
Luke
I've never done this type of thing before... any suggestions on spicing it up and my coding/slicing?
Scott
Very nice work for your 1st template.

A bit of color and some pictures would definitely make it more appealing.

Code = fail. its not even displaying the images properly :S

The navigation looks really plain and boring, i suggest adding gradients or something to it, add detail to the background of it etc.

the logo no-one really uses Bevel and Emboss anymore, so take that off and tone down the outter glow..

The template seems pretty okay for being your first but only thing i can suggest to improve your skills would to check other sites out. Here are afew Inspiration sites:

http://webcreme.com/
http://www.cssvault.com/
http://www.csselite.com.ar/
http://www.cssliquid.com/
http://www.cssremix.com

also add this to your favourites, it may very well come in handy later on:

alright... thanks! I just saved to web from photoshop (cs2) and then went into dreamweaver(2004), added some text, and then done! I didn't really code it... there's no css. Thanks for the pointers and the sites. I'll check 'em out! Anybody else with feedback, please share, I'd like to get better smile.gif
MrCracker
Thats the problem.. you should really learn css.
Luke
I need to work on coding... everytime i try to learn I get bored of reading manuals... I'd rather learn by experience. Is there a site like that... teaches you through building a website or something... not just a bunch of cool tricks posted by users but actually something I can learn from?
zelphics
really good job for a first template, looks like you've had more experience than just making one.

just needs to be coded a little better.
Luke
thank you smile.gif Any suggested coding tutorial sites... that aren't boring wink.gif

It's good for a first template, but the code have some error.

I suggest you to use xhtml and not html because xhtml allow you more than html and it's more professional

Uhm? for some tutorials you can go on zymic "LOL" or search on google.
Luke
Yea... cause google isn't an obvious one wink.gif I'll check out Zymic...

I've found this for you http://www.w3schools.com/xhtml/default.asp it's look great for learning html, xhtml or just css
Luke
Wow thanks man smile.gif (with a bit of sarcasm in there) That would've been my first choice... if I didn't mind being bored out of my mind... I just seem to have a problem staying focussed. I always get distracted cause it's so boring, ah! smile.gif That how I learned html the first time. Then I stopped programming... now I'm back. or.. have been back for a while but haven't been doing anything about learning it! smile.gif I need some inspiration!!!

I've the same problem LOL but I've found a good idea and it's work for me I print the page and after I read it's when I want
Luke
ha smile.gif i guess that would work... I just feel like i have to work on it at the same time... as in practice and do all the examples. I wish there was a way to learn by experience... smile.gif I guess I could try to plan a website in xhtml and make a usable site as I learn... that would actually help me. I'd feel like I'm getting something done! And I just noticed I type "..." a lot... and I don't even mean to!!!

Do not post post unless you have something constructive to say. You have been warned.

As far as the template goes, not bad for a first try.
Luke
Thanks CMain smile.gif
I'm starting to learn XHTML and CSS... so the coding should be better and I've been working more in photoshop so hopefully my designs will look better as well...
