Safe mode on is not available on Zymic due to security issues.

If you read there it says that it is optional anyway so you will still be able to set up your forum.. you just won't be able to use off-site avatar hosting.

Yes, as Davey90r stated above you will not be able to use such sites as ImageShack and Photobucket to host your avatars so the alternative is the make sure everyone uses the forum's avatar storage system.
Get them to send you the link then you can put it in the avatar gallery (generally located at /avatars).

Or set folder permissions correctly and allow them to upload avatars themselves.
