Have you already started your lyrics site? Maybe you just wonder: "Why does the site "www.azlyrics.com" brings "5 digits" profit monthly? Why does my website brings me back only hosting fees?"

Well, you need answer a few other questions first:

1. Do you have the exclusive layout on your web-site or have the view of majority other "turnkey $25" lyrics scripts?
2. Do you have a daily updated and fresh content?
3. Do you have a powerful and feature-rich lyrics engine?

Most likely, your answers will be "No. No. No." sad.gif

Ok, let's continue the digging into your problems with your previous lyrics site. There is one more question (it will be the last question wink.gif).

4. Did you planned to get the website with "5 digits" profit after investing $25 in it?

Yes, it looks like funny, but the majority of starting webmasters believe, that the simplest lyrics script which is available everywhere for the $25 can be used as a base for the successful lyrics site.

It's time to be realistic. It will be very hard to get success like "www.azlyrics.com" (it was easy 9 years ago but it is not easy nowadays). There are no grounds for the magic formula "Invest $25 and earn guaranteed $25,000 in a year" in real life. But if you are ready for hard working we can solve a lot of problems with your future high profit lyrics community. So we can provide for you:

1. 100% autopilot website. You will get the latest lyrics automatically from "www.azlyrics.com", "www.lyred.com", etc. Your site will be up to date without any efforts from your side. Google will LOVE your site for the TONS of the fresh content smile.gif
2. The Exclusive designs. Build own brand and nobody will have the same design (there is no one from our rivals who can provide to you the exclusive design for the reasonable price smile.gif).
3. The most powerful lyrics script which you have ever seen.
4. Custom add-ons, especially for your site.
5. High load ready engine. We are the only lyrics script vendor, who can fuel your site with "memcached" and "nginx".

Azlyrics.com do not hold copyrights for that lyrics, so I would not call it stealing.
Jetteh22
It's not stealing lyrics at all.

Do know, though, that if the artist or the publisher of those lyrics requests you to take them down from your server you must do that (http://www.letssingit.com for instance, some artists you can see about them, see about all their song, but it will say the artist wishes their lyrics not be displayed)

Yeah, basically and lyrics website is using an artists lyrics according to the fair use agreement. The real problem is that you'll be making money off somebodies intellectual property. And while you can use the lyrics in fair use (unless an artist doesn't want you to) some artists may not like you earning money off their writing.

What I hate most about these sites is most bloody bands get crap compared to the sites that host their goddamn writing. Recording studios should die. What confuses me about this is the idiot says not to use a lyric site script but is advertising one. Yeah, cause that's SO unique. [/sarcasm]

You have strange logic. Webmasters starts lyrics sites because they want to make money from them. We make money from lyrics too - we are simply doing it in different ways.
And you claim, that starting lyrics site and making money from it - is ok, but selling it and making money - is not ok.

Do you call me an idiot?
What I hate - when some looser offends other peoples just because he knows, that he will not get his ass kicked for that. Go to the streets and call first person you will see an idiot.

Personally, I agree with Nexus here, although I'd like to know why he is angry with recording studios... Nothing personal -- I'm just curious smile.gif

It does seem wrong to make money by using the creations of someone else. Although I have used lyrics sites in the past, I was under the impression that these lyrics are/were protected by the same copyright laws that protect other kinds of content like written words [such as a novel], designs and music.

I thought that putting the lyrics to a famous song online [without proper permissions] is like scanning the latest best-selling novel and then putting the text online which, I'm certain, will create legal problems for the website that does it.

Most lyrics are not free and are usually published by a firm permitted to do so. Look at the information on any of your CDS -- under each track, you'll see a line that says "published by [name of firm]".

Maybe I'm wrong and if I am, I'd like someone to correct me...

thats kind of strange discussion. There are a lot of the arguments, I would list only 1.
If lyrics are illegal, why azlyrics.com (hosted at the USA, domain registered at the USA) exists since 2001?
MrTouz
probably because AZ lyrics own rights.

You can go head contact the copyright owners of the lyrics and ask them to give you permision to use the lyrics on your site. If they do i guess you are allowed.

But i do not think you have to do it one by one... (imagine asking each song owner.. hey dude can i put your lyrics up my site tongue.gif)
I guess once you put the lyrics you have to "pay them back" in some way... i guess by advertisment or just pay them... i really do NOT thikn its free...

I've done some googling.

Technically, yes, lyrics sites are illegal.

Distributing copyrighted content is illegal, no matter what form you do it.
Big lyrics sites such as letssingit.com and lyricfind.com contact they publishers and request permission to use their lryics.

QUOTE
LyricFind has been negotiating license agreements with music publishers for the last year, and currently has over 328,000 tracks licensed, with more to come.

There is a current business model to by publishers to allow people to put lyrics on their sites. Such as:

QUOTE
Our clients are required to use basic copy protection such as disabling cut/paste/print/view source functions, but not to the extremes of using Flash apps or images to display lyrics, or other methods that make sites so frustratingly unusable they may as well not even be there. The publishers we're working with have been very understanding about this and have bought in to the idea of making sites work without forcing major changes upon them.

Well done, Creative. I knew that there had to be some legal stuff behind these lyrics sites -- now we know for sure smile.gif
Jetteh22
Well the way I see it.

There are so many things that are illegal that people do and nobody really takes notice. Take LimeWire for instance.. all of that music being distributed from people to people.
Nothing really happens abouit.

If you really want to wn a lyrics site THAT bad, do it. But beware, it could be shut down.
Guest021
