Whats the best way to get more Traffic to a website?

I have one way, but actually we are starting the project and I can't talk who about this because it's top secret for now.

Over the years, what I have found to be the best way in getting traffic to your site is to have something appealing to a certain community.
For example, say a Flash animator made an animation which was submitted to a popular flash/art websites such as Newgrounds or Deviantart. If the animation was a success many people would go to visit his/her site expecting to see more great stuff. So the best way to get traffic is to become good at a certain thing that will attract people to your site. And by posting your stuff on other related community forums/sites will attract more people but it isn't a good thing to just to post your site and saying what it has as that will count as spam and alot of people frown upon that.
