Great! Welcome to the world of web development.

First you're going to need an imagination, desire, and a dream... dreamweaver tongue.gif bad pun... Actually before you do anything you should learn to code. I suggest you learn XHTML and CSS before you start anything. Try... here - http://htmldog.com or search the web for css/html tutorials.

It will take a while, so you need to dedicate some of your time for it. Once you feel you understand what web dev is all about. Open up one of the templates in notepad. You could also use Notepad++ or Aptana IDE, or one of the many hundreds of open source editing tools out there. Just google it. I use aptana, but it's a little complicated.

After that I suggest you just try to figure everything out but of course not on your own! You can stick around here and ask questions, if you need help. Good luck on your chase for pride... design and dev skills wink.gif haha good luck.

Actually there are couple of threads similar to this one that was started at http://webdesignerforum.co.uk

All you basically need to do is, first think of what you want the overall site to look. I know you have a template, so in your case, you will need to know how you want to manipulate the layout so that it suits you. You can use softwares such as Programmers Note Pad 2 (a freeware) and code your site according to your liking, you can also use premium softwares such as DreamWeaver or FrontPage and edit it in a live preview kinda situation. Some hosts, such as those that uses cPanel, already have such option to edit templates in action, so they are easier and helpful. If you use zymic download the software and edit it.

If I am correct, the template from the link you provided are basically templates created either by TemplateMonster or 4Templates Inc. Therefore they are professional designs. Hopefully you did not download a flash template because it will be a pain to work with those and you will need some experience in handling action scripts.

I would say read up on the threads at the link I provided above and http://htmldog.com/guides/htmlbeginner/
I would also review the basics of CSS for Beginners.

And most importantly, express yourself through your work and have fun!!!

Selecting the right website design will undoubtedly be critical to your success online. If you have an online business, chances are you are not an expert at web design at all. You can either hire your own web designer or you can take the time to buy a website template and work on it yourself.

So how do you pick a website template? Do it right, and you will end up with a website that people will remember, bookmark, revisit and recommend to all their friends. A well-designed template will contain the following characteristics:

It's unique. You wouldn't want to use the same template your competitors are using now would you? Find something that's different from what everyone else is using. Most popular templates and web design trends are overused that you can find over a hundred websites looking exactly the same.

It's easy to edit. Find a flexible website template - one that you can edit with just about any HTML editor. If a template or design is heavy on graphics, pick one whose graphics are easy to edit or replace. Make sure that the picture files included are also optimized for web display. Otherwise you're going to end up with slow-loading pages.
