i made the best site!
The search for the best site in the world.

First off, nowhere am I saying that I, myself, have made the best site in the world. It's the title of the website. i made the best site! is the title I have given a new top sites website, though it has a twist.

Submit your site today and start collecting votes to have your site shown on our home page. No other websites are shown (with exception for paid advertisers), so as long as you have the most votes your site will be shown on our home page.

It was made for a few different reasons - I wanted to make a site that is still used around the world today, that can give users free traffic. That was checked off - A top sites website! But I also wanted it to be unique, so therefor I decided it is ONLY going to show the current site with the most votes! That was checked off - and I also did it because I know I get bored alot and I wanted a site where I, and others, can go to if we're bored to just find a quick site to look at without any googling. Ie - Go to imadethebestsite.com and just click on the top site for the time being and see.

No worries though, the votes are reset monthly, so even if you're not listed as the top site when you register, or for that month, votes will be reset and you'll begin to have a chance again.

NOTES: PM Me here or use contact form if you are looking to do paid advertising. Prices range from $2 - $10 per month.

I am going to be investing in paid advertising on other sites (going to do paid advertising on zymic.com for instance, along with google adwords and zymic traffic generator) so if you sign up, your site WILL get seen by people.

I'm looking for reviews on the layout, any errors etc, as it's just now open for Beta v1.
Any feedback would be appreciated and please sign up.

Update 7/12/2008

Tomorrow (Monday, July 13th) will mark ONE week since we decided to open the site to the public. Since we opened up on the 6th we have already received 7897 hits. Out of those hits we have received 709 Unique Visits...

I think that is a pretty good start off.

CommuteX is currently the top site...

Now.. As a new feature for the next month (Starting August 1st) we will be adding a referral system and a "minimum-votes" system...

Minimum votes means when the reset happens at the beginning of each month, you will not go down to ZERO always.. You will go down to whatever your minimum vote is.

For ALL sites that are in our system TOMORROW AT 6:45pm EST, you will each receive a minimum votes of 2. I know it doesn't seem like much, but we want everyone to have a chance (even the newer sites).

Whoever is listed as TOP SITE at the same time will receive minimum votes as 5.

So next month August 1st, you will all start out with at least 2 votes giving you an advantage.

PLEASE NOTE: The time to pay for advertising would be sometime before August 1st. We are going to be spending some money to get some advertising for our site and once we get up to 300 unique visits a day the advertising price will go up (Hopefully by august 1st)...

Can I ask you why there is an "Up" and "Down" link on the top area, if they don't work?
Jetteh22
LoL.
Yeah, you can.

They're there for the sites with the really long descriptions. If somebody put a full paragraph on what their site was about, it would need to be scrolled down to read (and scrollbars looked HORRID there) so... I put the up and down things (which will soon be changed to arrows).

No clue how to make them only show if it's a certain length, so It's like this for now.

The site itself is really good however, there are many similar to it already built. To be honest, I constantly get the feeling that your site will end up similar to Inspiration Folder.
Jetteh22
Thanks for the input.
I appreciate it, though I'm not sure what you mean about inspiration folder...

That site is about.. Web Design Templates.. Mine is about top sites? lol.
Jetteh22
*bump* Update, see main post biggrin.gif
Nugz
Not trying to stray off topic but how many sites have registered?
Jetteh22
Umm...
Last time I checked it was 17 sites actually registered.

That was sometime last night.
I just purchased alot of advertising space last night too and as far as I could tell it gave me 1395 unique views today itself (real people, it wasn't a traffic generator like the zymic one).

I'm not sure how many registered that one. I'm at work but as soon as I can check to see how many sites are registered I'll let you know.
Jetteh22
To Nugz.

Unfortunately, though we're receiving a ALOT of unique hits through advertising not many sites have signed up for it.

As of right now there are 20 sites. It seems like at least one person is signing up each day so that's a good start I guess.
Nugz
Its a start, I hope it gets better for ya.
Paradoks
he really isnt doing it to benefit from it. the ad money is just a bonus. he did it for the sake of having it

Nice design and very useful for me at this time. Is it compulsory to keep the html code in our site for voting provided by you? And when the visitors vote, will they be directed to your site? And can users be sure that they can get more visitors? Just some silly questions. laugh.gif
Jetteh22
Thanks for the feedback Moon.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Is it compulsory to keep the html code in our site for voting provided by you?" If you could elaborate on that a bit, that'd be great.

And yes, when visitors vote they are directed to a thank you for voting page. The reason for this is because the default codes I have given are made to open the link in a new window so that they won't be directed from the page they were on before. (So if they click on it on your page, it will open my thank you page in a new window so they can still be on yours).

And by can users be sure they can get more visitors? Technically, no they can't. To be honest there is NO way of assuring you that visitors will go to your site from mine. The thing is, it's free so even if you just put the link on your page.. If you make it to the top, you make it to the top. It's not like you, personally, have to do much.

For the August 1st update I am planning on implementing a referral system that will give you 2 votes for each person you refer. Sometime in august I am going to implement a "Retrieve my codes!" Link so that you can just enter your email and receive the codes for all of your sites. Also sometime in august I am thinking about implementing a link (maybe the same as the retrieve my codes one) that will let you see how many outbound links you have received, ect that way there is a way for you to track them.

Hope the info helped.

Thanks for the info. That was helpful. smile.gif

Not to fond of the design to be honest.

The boxes seem to me to be a bit crowded, next to no padding inside them... makes it look squashed.

Also, the popup when random site is not overly clear...
you could use CSS to put a 50% opacity black box over the whole site's content and have just the popup in front of it... so the site looks blured out a bit, while the popup looks clear... get me?

Overall, you may want to go simpler... it looks a bit crowed and confusing.

Have a look at these designs for inspiration.

The site looks good, the current top site's text gets cut off for me. I'm using windows xp, Opera, and res 1920x1200 . I would also change your hover over, it seems like your have 2 right now. i would get ride of the side line, or make the rest of the text not shift when you hover over it. besides that the site looks great, nice colors!
Banjo
kind of an old topic...
Jetteh22
Yes, it is quite old but thank you for the advice.
For those of you who might still care the site isn't dead. I didn't give up on it. This site is actually going to be kept and I'm going to make it better.

I never reset the votes or anything as I am still working on another project at the moment but as soon as I finish that one this one is going to keep the same look and feel though I'm going to go for more of a professional look. Colors will stay the same, but I'm hoping for the god forsaken web 2.0 look.

It will keep the same premesis also, though you'll be able to go through a directory of websites not just the site with the most votes or a random site. Each site will have X amount of GOOD votes and X amount of BAD votes along with comments. The average of the votes will determine who is shown on the front page and the order in the directory. For example.. The site with the highest percentage of good votes will be shown on front page and in the directory it will be shown from highest to lowest.. 75% good will be shown above 69% good.
