Tip: When attempting/doing a mechanical animation, keep in mind that it needs to 'feel' real. I mean, it's okay if your cogs seem to be suspended in space [that's your visual style

] , but the animation itself looks and feels much real if it follows the everyday real-world rules of movement etc.
Your cogs, for instance, mesh
into one another at certain points of the animation; that is, they intersect -- which solid objects don't do. So you need to correct that by changing the animation's timing

. Fix that, adjust the lighting a wee bit

and the thing will look great.. and more 'real' too

Your so-called 'weird graphic': did you do this in Photoshop? I mean, the lighting effect looks like the one Photoshop has...
And how about using some more colours in your graphics unless, of course, you're going for the black-&-white look. All the best
