Learn how to create a "burnt text" effect using the eraser tool.
Step 1
Create a new document, around 640x480 with a white bg.
Select the text tool, I used the font "Hemi Head 4260", dafont.com has it.
I typed out an "R" at a big size and used the colour: #FF9600
Step 2
Open up the blending options of your text layer, and select bevel and emboss. Use the below settings:
Step 3
Now go into the stroke settings and use the below settings and then press OK!
Step 4
Your letter should look like below now (but bigger):
Step 5
Now right click your layer and click "Rasterize" as shown below:
Step 6
Now select the eraser tool, select the mode brush and size 21.
Now slowly erase parts of your letter. Tip: more times you go over an area the faster it erases. My letter now looks like below:
Step 7
Here is my result, but with the text "Zymic". I hoped you enjoyed the tutorial :)
